This marksmanship process is simple. A member plays games and records them. When the credits a member has earned in a single category are equal to or greater than the number necessary for a certificate to be issued, the issuing authority does so.

A game qualifies if two or more TRMN members are engaged in playing it, or one member plays with two non-members willing to verify the game session. In each game, one member is responsible for recording the game. There is a form available with which to do this but often an email with the game details is sufficient for the person at the chapter level or above who keeps the records. These records are sent to the issuing authority and a certificate is generated.

The levels are issued at 5, 100, 200 and 600 credits.

==Fourth Engineer==

Fourth Engineer is a rank used by the Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine.

====Honorverse====
In the Honorverse, the Star Empire of Manticore uses the rank of Fourth Engineer as the more junior of the two individuals holding a Third Engineers Certificate of Competency on freighters that carry two Third Engineers. On passenger liners with multiple people having billets that require at least a Third Engineers Certificate of Competency, as seniority goes down, their number goes up. So a passenger liner with 6 junior officers could have a Seventh Engineer. Other star nations only use the rank of Third Engineer with a number after it. Thus Third Engineer number one, Third Engineer number two, etc.

====TRMN====
In TRMN, a Fourth Engineer is a merchant marine engine officer who has completed their Merchant Marine Officer 0101 exam and served as a C-4 (Spacer II, Sr Ordinary Spacer, Technician, 2nd Cook or Medical Assistant) for 4 months Time In Grade and have appropriate Promotion Points, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank by their commanding officer (military) or Master (merchant marine) of the chapter. They can also be promoted, regardless of Time In Grade or Promotion Points during a ship upgrade if the ship needs more officers. They hold the Paygrade of C-11.

====Real World====
In the real world, a Fourth Engineer is an engineer in the UK and primarily Commonwealth countries (but Not the US) who holds a Certificate of Competency. They also hold the endorsement as Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch. The same rank in the US is called Third Assistant Engineer.
They could be a watch stander or a day worker. See Third Engineer for primary responsibilities.

Third Engineer is a rank used by the Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine.

==Honorverse==
In the Honorverse, a Third Engineer is an engineering officer holding a Certificate of Competency (Star Empire of Manticore and some other star nations) or a License as Third Engineer. They also hold an endorsement as Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch. They are primarily a watchstander, standing watch in the engine room while underway. Their duties include inspection and upkeep of the life support systems and hydroponics. On a passenger liner they could be a day worker focusing life support.or hydroponics.

Third Engineers are considered Operational Level officers.

TRMN
In TRMN, a Third Engineer is a merchant marine engineering officer who has completed their Merchant Marine Officer 0102 exam (Line Track), or Merchant Marine Officer 0101 exam (Staff and Service tracks), and served as a Fourth Engineer for six months Time In Grade and have sufficient Promotion Points, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank by a promotion board. They hold the Paygrade of C-12

Real World
A Third Assistant Engineer, is a licensed engineering officer (US term) or certificated officer (UK term). As an engineering officer they also hold an STCW endorsement as Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch. They could be a watch stander, standing watch in the engine room, or a day worker on ships that have an unmanned engine room. Their primary duties are being in charge of the diesel generators, water production equipment, lube oil & lube oil systems and the sludge and bilge systems.

In the UK and other Commonwealth countries they are normally designated as Fourth Engineer, specifically not using the word Assistant Engineer.

Third Assistant Engineers are considered Operational Level officers.

Their duties include inspection and upkeep of the reactors and associated power systems. On a passenger liner they could be the senior watch officer on one of the three watch sections where they oversee a Third Engineer and Technicians for that watch.

Second Assistant Engineers are considered Operational Level officers.

In TRMN, a Second Engineer is a merchant marine engineering officer who has completed their Merchant Marine Officer 0103 exam (Line Track), or Merchant Marine Officer 0102 exam (Staff track) or Merchant Marine Officer 0102 exam (Service tracks), and served as a Third Engineer for nine months Time In Grade and have sufficient Promotion Points, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank by a promotion board. They hold the Paygrade of C-13

Real World

The other two watch sections on a passenger liner would have a Second Engineer and a Third Engineer along with a number of Technicians.

Senior Second Assistant Engineers are considered Operational Level officers.

In the Honorverse, a First Engineer is an engineering officer holding a Certificate of Competency (Star Empire of Manticore and other star nations) or a License as First Engineer. They are primarily day workers. They are in charge of the hyperdrive and impeller systems.

First Engineers are considered Management Level officers.

TRMN
In TRMN, a First Engineer is a merchant marine engineering officer who has completed their Merchant Marine Officer 0105 exam (Line Track), or Merchant Marine Officer 0103 exam (Staff track), and served as a Senior Second Engineer for fifteen months Time In Grade and have sufficient Promotion Points, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank by a promotion board. They hold the Paygrade of C-15

Real World
The First Assistant Engineer, is a licensed engineering officer (US term) or certificated officer (UK term). As an engineering officer they also hold an STCW endorsement as Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch. They could be a watch stander, standing watch in the engine room, or more commonly a day worker. Their primary duties are being in charge of the main engine (diesel, or gas turbine), reduction gears and main turbine on steam ships. They are in charge of the daily operation and running of the engine room and the other members of the department.

In the UK and other Commonwealth countries they are normally designated as Second Engineer, specifically not using the word Assistant Engineer. In the UK and other Commonwealth countries there is no First or First Assistant Engineer title.

First Assistant Engineers are considered Management Level officers.

Honorverse
In the Honorverse, a Chief Engineer is an engineering officer holding a Certificate of Competency (Star Empire of Manticore and other star nations) or a License as Chief Engineer. They are day workers. They are in charge of the overall running of the engine department. .

Fourth Engineer is a rank used by the Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine.

==Honorverse==
In the Honorverse, the Star Empire of Manticore uses the rank of Fourth Engineer as the more junior of the two individuals holding a Third Engineers Certificate of Competency on freighters that carry two Third Engineers. On passenger liners with multiple people having billets that require at least a Third Engineers Certificate of Competency, as seniority goes down, their number goes up. So a passenger liner with 6 junior officers could have a Seventh Engineer. Other star nations only use the rank of Third Engineer with a number after it. Thus Third Engineer number one, Third Engineer number two, etc.

In TRMN, a Fourth Engineer is a merchant marine engine officer who has completed their Merchant Marine Officer 0101 exam and served as a C-4 (Spacer II, Sr Ordinary Spacer, Technician, 2nd Cook or Medical Assistant) for 4 months Time In Grade and have appropriate Promotion Points, they are eligible to be promoted to this rank by their commanding officer (military) or Master (merchant marine) of the chapter. They can also be promoted, regardless of Time In Grade or Promotion Points during a ship upgrade if the ship needs more officers. They hold the Paygrade of C-11.

==Real World==
In the real world, a Fourth Engineer is an engineer in the UK and primarily Commonwealth countries (but Not the US) who holds a Certificate of Competency. They also hold the endorsement as Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch. The same rank in the US is called Third Assistant Engineer.
They could be a watch stander or a day worker. See Third Engineer for primary responsibilities.

==Honorverse==
The merchant marine, whether of the [[Star Empire of Manticore]], the [[Republic of Haven Navy|Republic of Haven]] or any other star nation, is a civilian industry. The ships are owned by private companies or individuals in free market societies. In places like the old People’s Republic of Haven, in which the government owned every major capital intensive business, the ships are government-owned and are operated by a civilian bureaucracy, usually associated with the Ministry of Trade or similarly named non-military agency.
The merchant marine is also known as the merchant navy, mercantile marine, merchant service, or hansemarine (in the [[Andermani Empire]]). The people who work on the ships are referred to as merchant mariners or merchant spacers, never as merchant marines.

The Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine, or RMMM, is comprised of [[Manticoran]] flagged merchant ships that transported cargo and people during times of both peace and war. The Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine is the single largest merchant navy in the galaxy. The hundreds of companies that own the thousands of ships that fly the Manticoran flag operate a wide variety of ships, from small 100,000 ton couriers to 8 megaton freighters with a crew of about 25, to passenger liners with crews of 600 that can carry up to 5,000 passengers. We serve the carrying trade not only between the Star Empire of Manticore and other star nations, but also within the many star systems of the Galaxy, including in the Solarian League.

A [[spacer]] is a person who is a member of a space-going navy or a civilian spaceship crew.

"Spacer" can be used as a generic term to collectively refer to all ranks of naval personnel and merchant ship personnel, in the same way that "soldier" is used as a generic term for army personnel of any rank. Spacer is also the specific title of the lowest grades of naval services.

The traditional symbol for spacers is an archaic vac-helmet.

==Honorverse==
The merchant marine, whether of the [[Star Empire of Manticore]], the [[Republic of Haven Navy|Republic of Haven]] or any other star nation, is a civilian industry. The ships are owned by private companies or individuals in free market societies. In places like the old People’s Republic of Haven, in which the government owned every major capital intensive business, the ships are government-owned and are operated by a civilian bureaucracy, usually associated with the Ministry of Trade or similarly named non-military agency.
The merchant marine is also known as the merchant navy, mercantile marine, merchant service, or hansemarine (in the [[Andermani Empire]]). The people who work on the ships are referred to as merchant mariners or merchant spacers, never as merchant marines.

The Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine, or RMMM, is comprised of [[Manticoran]] flagged merchant ships that transported cargo and people during times of both peace and war. The Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine is the single largest merchant navy in the galaxy. The hundreds of companies that own the thousands of ships that fly the Manticoran flag operate a wide variety of ships, from small 100,000 ton couriers to 8 megaton freighters with a crew of about 25, to passenger liners with crews of 600 that can carry up to 5,000 passengers. We serve the carrying trade not only between the Star Empire of Manticore and other star nations, but also within the many star systems of the Galaxy, including in the Solarian League.

The mandate of the RMMM is to provide a framework for TRMN chapters to be organized as merchant ships and crewed by members in the RMMM branch. The RMMM has a mission of:

# Introduce the members of TRMN to the strategic importance, both historically and the current times, to the real world merchant marine.

==Honorverse==
The merchant marine, whether of the [[Star Empire of Manticore]], the [[Republic of Haven Navy|Republic of Haven]] or any other star nation, is a civilian industry. The ships are owned by private companies or individuals in free market societies. In places like the old People’s Republic of Haven, in which the government owned every major capital intensive business, the ships are government-owned and are operated by a civilian bureaucracy, usually associated with the Ministry of Trade or similarly named non-military agency.
The merchant marine is also known as the merchant navy, mercantile marine, merchant service, or hansemarine (in the [[Andermani Empire]]). The people who work on the ships are referred to as merchant mariners or merchant spacers, never as merchant marines.

The Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine, or RMMM, is comprised of [[Manticoran]] flagged merchant ships that transported cargo and people during times of both peace and war. The Royal Manticoran Merchant Marine is the single largest merchant navy in the galaxy. The hundreds of companies that own the thousands of ships that fly the Manticoran flag operate a wide variety of ships, from small 100,000 ton couriers to 8 megaton freighters with a crew of about 25, to passenger liners with crews of 600 that can carry up to 5,000 passengers. We serve the carrying trade not only between the Star Empire of Manticore and other star nations, but also within the many star systems of the Galaxy, including in the Solarian League.

The [[Civilian Pin]] is awarded to non-uniformed civilians who have passed through a rigorous set of qualifications which accredit them as one of two levels; the ‘Accredited Staff Member Pin’ or ‘ASM’ and ‘Chartered Staff Member Pin’ or ‘CSM’.

==Summary==
The “Civilian Pin” is an award issued to members of the Diplomatic and Special Intelligence Service (SIS) branches who successfully complete a rigorous set of
courses.
The “Civilian Pin” is designed to be challenging and aims to broaden members' knowledge of TRMN, history and the sciences. Many of the courses on the
programme are to be found in [[Butrain:SKUS Landing University|Landing University]] and the [[Butrain:SKUS Mannheim University|Mannheim University]].

Whilst the Civilian Pin can only be worn by the non-uniformed branch members, ALL branches of TRMN who have completed the courses may submit applications to take part in this programme.

==Background==

The [[Black Sphinx Cup]] (which ran from [[Naval Directive 19NO-01|2016 to 2019]]) was an interChapter competition aimed at encouraging chapter members to under take a series of courses with the goal of achieving the Space Warfare Pin (“SWP”). It was an important event to many Chapters in the fleet, and everyone was encouraged to take part.

Launched early in 2019, the “Civilian Pin” was recognised as the only option for members of the [[Diplomatic Corps]] or the [[Special Intelligence Service]] and would be counted towards the total of their Chapter’s ‘[[Space Warfare Pin]]’ Challenge.

==Current==
At the time of writing there are some 6000 members in TRMN of which there are 268 Diplomatic and SIS members. Whilst the cessation of the Challenge Cup may have altered the original goal, the underlying intention, one of having fun whilst learning at the same time remains unchanged. It is the intention of the Home Secretary to continue to develop this programme and to incorporate it into our daily TRMN lives.

Once all the requisite courses have been completed – the student will download and complete the appropriate form (see "[[The_Civilian_Pin#See_Also|See Also]]") and send as an attachment to the Regent – Star Kingdom University. Recipients of the Civilian Pin Award will be announced bi-monthly by the Home Secretary.
