Enhancement criteria include but are not limited to personal danger to the nominee, additional work or research required to render life-saving assistance, or situations where the nominee renders life-saving assistance to multiple victims in the same incident. Note that this need not be medical assistance—rescuing someone from a burning building would count.

	Because of the nature of their professions, and the definition of ‘above and beyond' is difficult at best, therefore, the award for those personnel who are professional first responders or who volunteer in other life-saving positions will be addressed on a case-by-case basis by the Houses of Parliament.
