SMS ''Buddenbrock'' was commissioned on 22 December 2013 as a [[Blücher-class]] pod-laying battlecruiser under the command of [[KdS]] Laura Sophia Löschen, and was assigned to the [[Seventh Fleet]], based in Hamburg, Germany.<ref>[[Orders:BuShips Directive 1312-04]]</ref>

A change of command on 14 September 2016 placed [[OSB]] Matthias Leuser in command.<ref>[[Orders:BuShips Directive 1609-08]]</ref>

The ship was subsequently redesignated with the Andermani hull number S-17. SMS ''Buddenbrock'' (S-17) was decommissioned on 1 February 2022, at which time [[KdS]] Swieton was ordered to stand her down and return her to New Berlin for decommissioning and crew transfer.<ref>[[Orders:BuShips Directive 2202-02]]</ref>
