The 1st MARDET is an honorific unit that is comprised of members of the RMMC that have distinguished themselves through their service to the RMMC and/or to The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. or any of its other divisions. Members are chosen by the current Commandant RMMC and/or the First Lord of the Admiralty. Membership in the 1st MARDET is only for a calendar year commencing from when a member is inducted at the annual meeting of The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. The commanding officer of the 1st MARDET is chosen from amongst the officers that are inducted in any given calendar year. The sitting RMMC Commandant may not be a member of the 1st MARDET, they only become eligible when they step down from the post.
