GNS Matthias (DD-28) was an Apostle-class Destroyer of the Grayson Space Navy, the first ship commissioned in that navy. Commissioned in 2011 and briefly recommissioned in 2017, she was decommissioned on 15 December 2017.
History
Matthias was first brought into commission on 25 March 2011 under the command of LCDR Anne Zecca, by order of BuShips. This ship was an upgrade of the GNS Barbara Bancroft, which at the time was listed as a Katana-class LAC. Anne Zecca, also serving as Director of Membership Processing, BuPers, launched this ship in Ocala, Florida. This served the first true ship in the Grayson Space Navy, and remained the only ship in the Grayson fleet until the commissioning of GNS Albion (DD-42) on 31 October 2011. The crew of the Matthias continued to serve until 29 April 2014, when it was upgraded to GNS Nathan and Matthias was placed in reserve.
Matthias was recommissioned on 28 May 2017 in the Second Fleet under CDR Terri Leavitt, with her original commanding officer, Anne Zecca, returning as executive officer.[1] She was decommissioned on 15 December 2017, her crew transferred to HMSS Greenwich.[2]
