TenthFleet:Projects/Help:Contents Expansion
This Project aims to update, consolidate, organize, and expand pages within the Help: and TenthFleet: Namespaces, to be easily & reliably accessible from the Help:Contents page. Inspired by the [Guild Wars 2 Wiki's Help:Contents] page, the Tenth Fleet Wiki's Help:Contents page should serve as a Wiki Community hub/dashboard.
Project lead: Chris Magnani
Goal
Ultimately, the goal of this project is to create a dashboard-like page that all levels of the team can use in the process of maintaining and expanding Tenth Fleet Wiki, providing a useful (yet non-intimidating) tool chest of commonly-used links, tools, and reference materials for current and future team members. A major element of this expansion is the inclusion of the instruction taught in the 7-part Wikimedia Core Curriculum series. Depending on involvement in this Project, aspects from Memory-Alpha can also be updated/added within this wiki.
- The overall goal of this project is
- To make the process of being a wiki editor newbie less painful and not as intimidating
- To consolidate & organize the various bits & pages of information (e.g. policies, guidelines, processes) into a more cohesive and understandable form
- To create infrastructure elements on Tenth Fleet Wiki not currently in existence in order to foster collaborative communication, spur discussion on processes yet to be established, and create helpful resources for new editors
- To provide explanatory pages and/or sections for new editors to quickly grasp various concepts, terminology, and tools inherent to working with a wiki, all geared with Tenth Fleet Wiki in mind
Scope
Describe some details regarding what specific aspects are affected by the actions of this Project. (Need to add an example, different than what currently exists in other Projects.)
- The scope is limited to consolidate, organize, and expand pages within the Help: and TenthFleet: specifically indicated within the Status section. These pages serve as reference materials, useful tools, and parts of operational infrastructure as the team determines is needed for collaboration & communication.
- Another limit to the scope in this project addresses Policies and Guidelines. While this project touches on Policy or Guideline pages (meaning, creating some organization of the many Policy-tagged pages), the Project Manager is not tasked with dictating or creating any new Policies or Guidelines themselves; that is outside the scope of this Project.
Method
Many interconnected elements are involved; some exist within this wiki already, others do not. Because of this, the process entails a mixture of methodical top-to-bottom review of the list within the Status section, and a somewhat organic development process as various detailed aspects are encountered. The Project Manager is approaching this with a fresh perspective. This provides an opportunity to to review the process pipeline of a User of from start to finish; from someone interested in joining, to advanced editor.Creation of pages and content detailed in the To Do list in this Project page will be written manually to keep the content original. This includes reviewing current content, updating as necessary.
Additionally, there are currently several pages/elements within the scope of this Project that contain an {{Under construction}} tag. The completion of work on these pages, prompting removal of the tag, is another part of the method for Project completion.
Conventions and Rulings
Some decisions regarding Policies, Guidelines, Processes and technologies require input from Administrator(s) and/or the team. These determinations will be recorded here.
Status
Status is indicated by the page link colors (gold=created, red=to be created, discussed, or eliminated from the list (with a strikethrough)) and notations next to each link (individual status). Links with strikethrough have finished the editing process, review, and are considered finished within the scope of this Project.
