TenthFleet:Privacy policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Tenth Fleet Wiki (the wiki, hosted at wiki.tenthfleet.org) collects, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. The wiki is a volunteer-run regional reference maintained by members of Tenth Fleet of The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN). It is not the official corporate website of The Royal Manticoran Navy, Inc., nor the official TRMN wiki (Mantipedia); those services maintain their own separate policies.
By reading, registering on, or editing the wiki, you acknowledge the practices described below.
Who operates the wiki
The wiki is operated and maintained by volunteers of Tenth Fleet, coordinated by the wiki's administrator, Michael Garcia. Questions about this policy or your information may be directed to the administrator through User talk:MDGarcia or the Report a Problem form.
Information we collect
Reading the wiki
You do not need an account to read the wiki. When you view pages, the web server records standard technical information in its logs, including your IP address, browser type, and the time of access. These logs are used only to operate and secure the site and are not published.
Creating an account
An account is required to edit the wiki; no account is needed simply to read it. Public self-registration is disabled — accounts are arranged through the wiki's administrators. Each account has a username, which is public and permanently associated with your contributions, and a password, which is stored only in encrypted (hashed) form. Providing an email address is optional; if given, it is used only for account functions such as password resets and any notifications you choose to enable. It is not displayed publicly and is not shared.
Editing and contributions
All contributions to the wiki are public and permanent. Editing requires a logged-in account; the wiki does not permit anonymous editing. Every edit is recorded in the page's history and attributed to your account username. Edit summaries, uploaded files, and discussion-page comments are likewise public and archived indefinitely. Because an account is required to edit, your IP address is not exposed to the public through your contributions. Do not add information to the wiki that you are not willing to make permanently public.
Cookies
The wiki uses cookies to keep you logged in during a session, to remember interface preferences, and to support editing. If you disable cookies you can still read the wiki, but you will not be able to log in.
How we use information
Information is used solely to operate, maintain, and secure the wiki: to attribute contributions, to let you log in and set preferences, to send account-related messages, and to detect and prevent vandalism, spam, and abuse. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Disclosure of information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Information may be disclosed only:
- as it is inherently public through the ordinary operation of the wiki (usernames, edits, and the IP addresses of anonymous edits, as described above);
- to the extent necessary for the hosting provider and technical volunteers to operate and secure the site; or
- where required to comply with applicable law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of the wiki, its users, or the public — for example, when investigating abuse.
Retention
Because the wiki is a permanent reference, page histories — including every edit and its attribution to the contributing account — are retained indefinitely and generally cannot be removed, as they form part of the attribution record. Account information is retained for as long as the account exists. Server logs, including the IP addresses they record, are kept only as long as needed for site operation and security.
Your choices
- You may read the wiki without an account.
- Editing requires an account; because anonymous editing is not permitted, your IP address is never attached to your contributions.
- You may update your email address and interface preferences at any time in your account preferences.
- If personal information has been published in error — for example, a real name, address, or contact detail you did not intend to make public — contact the administrator, who will make reasonable efforts to remove or hide it, subject to the wiki's attribution requirements.
Minors
Members of The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. include young people, and TRMN maintains its own youth policy. This wiki is a general reference and does not knowingly solicit personal information from children. If you are a minor, do not create an account or post personal information without the consent of a parent or guardian, and follow TRMN's youth-protection guidance.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the wiki and the information it holds, but no website or method of transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
External links
The wiki links to external sites, including the TRMN forums and other resources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, for which this wiki is not responsible.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the page history records when each change was made. Your continued use of the wiki after a change constitutes acknowledgement of the updated policy.
