Battalion
A battalion is a military unit used in The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN) by the Royal Manticoran Army and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps.
In canon, a battalion is a subsidiary unit of a regiment made up of several hundred soldiers or marines commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel. The battalion is in turn made up of companies.
Chapter nomenclature
RMA chapters have regimental names,[1] so a Tier 5 chapter portrays a subsidiary battalion of the named regiment.
Example: First Battalion Shadow Vale Regiment. This is typically written as 1/SHADOW VALE

Chapter
A chapter is a local subsidiary of an organization.
In The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN), all members choose a chapter to join, and are invited to form new chapters. Chapter structure is defined by PD-SC-1003 Chapter and Echelon Policy.
Chapter nomenclature
The chapter name will be the name of a ship from the Honorverse canon approved by BuShips, such as HMS Invincible.
Army chapter nomenclature
In TRMN, an army chapter is a regiment, or portrays part of a notional regiment if the chapter is less than regimental strength. For example a Tier 3 sized chapter takes its name from a regiment, but portrays a company within that regiment. The regiment name stays the same as the chapter grows to portray larger echelons within the regiment, up to the entire regiment (if it is a Tier 9 chapter).[2]

The type of ship which a chapter may portray is limited by minimum crew complement requirements. Although the fictional spaceship would have a much larger crew (the largest superdreadnoughts might have crew complements numbering in the thousands),the chapter requirements are:

Company
A company is a military unit used in The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN) by the Royal Manticoran Army and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps.
In canon, a company is a subsidiary unit of a battalion made up of 100-200 soldiers or marines commanded by a lieutenant. The company is in turn made up of platoons.

RMA chapters have regimental names,[3] so a Tier 3 chapter portrays a subsidiary company of the named regiment.
Example: First Battalion Shadow Vale Regiment, Alpha Company.

Flight
A flight is a military unit used by the Royal Manticoran Army's Atmospheric Command and also Light Attack Craft of the Royal Manticoran Navy.
In canon, a flight is subsidiary echelon of a squadron consisting of several craft.
Chapter Nomenclature
All RMA chapters that wish to portray an Aerospace unit take a wing name. If they are a smaller tier than full wing, they portray a constituent echelon of the wing. For example, a Tier 2 chapter portrays one of the wing's flights.
Example: Stonearch Atmospheric Wing, Alpha Squadron, Number One Flight
The chapter name stays the same as the chapter grows to portray larger portions of the wing, up to the full wing (Tier 9 chapter).[4]

Squad
A squad is a military unit used in The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (TRMN) by the Royal Manticoran Army and the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps.
In canon, a squad is a subsidiary unit of a platoon made up of approximately 10 soldiers or marines led by a sergeant. The squad may be divided into two fireteams.
Chapter nomenclature
RMA chapters have regimental names,[6] so a Tier 1 chapter portrays a subsidiary squad of the named regiment.
Example: Shadow Vale Regiment, Alpha Company, First Platoon, First Squad.
Tier 1 chapters are Attached Elements of larger chapters,[7] so will take their name as a squad of the parent chapter. If a Tier 1 chapter upgrades to a Tier 2 or larger chapter, it can then select its own regimental name.
Squadron
A squadron is a type of echelon of warships organized for administrative and/or operational purposes.
RMA Chapter Nomenclature
The chapter name will be a nominal aerospace wing, of which the squadron is part.[8] A Tier 3 chapter would be called, for example, "Alpha Squadron, Stonearch Atmospheric Wing."

The Royal Manticoran Navy (TRMN)
The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc. (abbrev: TRMN or tRMN) is a fan club based on the appreciation of author David Weber's Honor Harrington series of science fiction novels and anthologies. The setting for the series is referred to as the Honorverse, and the organization takes its name from the space navy to which the main character belongs.
TRMN Organization and Culture
TRMN founder Martin Lessem, along with many of the early leaders of the club, had belonged to STARFLEET International (SFI), and many pseudo-military elements of TRMN hierarchy and culture are inspired by SFI's structure, translated into the nomenclature used in the Honorverse canon.
TRMN has an extensive body of jargon and acronyms.

Wing
A wing is a military unit used by the Royal Manticoran Army's Atmospheric Command .
In canon, a wing is made up of one or more aerospace groups, and can consist of several thousand personnel.
Chapter Nomenclature
All RMA chapters that wish to portray an Aerospace unit take a wing name. If they are a smaller tier than full wing, they portray a constituent echelon of the wing. For example, a Tier 3 chapter portrays one of the wing's squadrons. The chapter name stays the same as the chapter grows to portray larger portions of the wing, up to the full wing (Tier 9 chapter).[9]
