Re: Naming Conventions - Post Imperial Germany and Communist China

It has long been policy that names specifically associated with the Nazi era in Germany, and associated with the Communist Party of China have been forbidden as naming conventions within the IAN. This command directive is to clarify and reinforce that policy. Due to the circumstances of history with regards to Germany and China in the 20th/21st Centuries, names of individuals or groups from post November 11th 1918 will not be considered for the naming of ships, shore installations, or space stations regardless of if they are in reference to a canonical ship. If the name cannot draw lineage from prior to that date it will not be considered valid. It is therefore directed that all name requests be first submitted to IAN leadership for review and approval before being submitted to BuShips. Exceptions to Policy can be granted but only on the unanimous decision of the Grossadmiral der Flotte, the Vizeadmiral of the IAN, and the 7th Fleet Commander or their designated in writing proxies. Approval by the IAN leadership does not necessarily mean that the name will be approved by BuShips and should not be interpreted as such, it is still subject to the formal name request process IAW BuShip policies.
