HER MAJESTY'S NAVAL DIRECTIVE RMN-2605-02
OFFICE OF THE FIRST SPACE LORD'S HONORS, Q1 2026
It is with great pleasure that the following members of the Royal Manticoran Navy are recognized and decorated for their outstanding contributions to the organization.
MANTICORE CROSS
Captain of the List Julie Taylor: Captain Taylor planned and executed an HMS Black Rose chapter retreat week on the Oregon coast, expending copious time-share points to get ten of us (could have been more) into full suites at a resort at a small fraction of the real price. Julie started planning almost a year in advance, following up with recruitment, invitations to neighboring chapters, registration, travel coordination, check-in logistics and some meal logistics. She also planned two excursions and GM'd our rainy-day D&D session. Julie did amazing heavy lifting for our whole unit so the rest of us could have opportunities to contribute in much smaller ways.
Admiral of the Green Wayne Bruns: Admiral Bruns has served with distinction in BuTrain for over 10 years and has served as the Mannheim University Political Science Course Instructor for the 12 months up through March 2026.
OSTERMAN CROSS
Master Chief Intelligence Mate Thomas Guertin: Master Chief Guertin has been an active member of The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association for seven and a half years. His service to the organization has ranged from the chapter-level, all the way up to the Admiralty House-level and in between at the fleet-level. While his contributions have not come from the senior-most offices of the organization, they have none-the-less been impactful in a variety of ways that have helped to promote TRMN, especially in the New England region of the USA where chapters are few and far, and several states do not even have a chapter. Every step, every new billet, it wasn't about what TRMN could do for Tom; it was what Tom could do for TRMN. As the Detriment's Intelligence Specialist and NCOIC, Tom was tasked by the Bosun with taking over procurement of convention table space on behalf of TRMN and the chapter. Tom has performed in that role expertly and we have formed good ties to several local area conventions while others we are repairing ties where other chapters failed; all of this is thanks to Tom's tireless efforts. His duties as Intel NCOIC also include being present at routine chapter meetings and giving reports to the chapter on the progress of conventions and procurement of table spaces, he also provides the editor of the chapter newsletter with non-classified Intel reports for publication. While The Royal Manticoran Navy often awards the Osterman Cross for high-profile roles and major individual projects, we should not overlook the cumulative impact of smaller billets and assignments. These contributions, when taken together, play a significant role in the organization’s growth and stability, even if they are not always recognized as a whole.
DISTINGUISHED GALLANTRY CROSS
Master Chief EW Mate Danielle Ostach: Master Chief Ostach has served in BuTrain for over 5 years and has served as the RMMCTC Enlisted Instructor and Chair of the MTSC Special Teams Department for the 12 months up through March 2026.
GRYPHON STAR
Master Chief Petty Officer Thomas Boutilier: MCPO Boutilier's service to TRMN and HMS Devastation related to support of the recruiting table at Boskone 64 (February 13-15) should be considered above and beyond the call. First Tom spent a considerable amount of time and resources implementing new technology for use at the recruiting table. He obtained a LED Fan which he then put time into programming to display a rotating selection of organization logos to attract attention to the table. Additionally, when a shipmate's transportation fell through and he wouldn't have been able to attend the convention, Tom traveled out of his way to pick his shipmate up at his home and transport him to the convention and then back home again each day. This represented an additional 2 hours of driving each day.
SURVIVOR'S CROSS
Rear Admiral of the Red Kerry Kuhn: RADM Kuhn was driving to PenguiCon in Southfield, Mi with Chief Danielle Ostach of HMS Demon. When they arrived at the hotel, Chief Ostach fell over a retaining wall and injured her leg. Admiral Kuhn assisted Chief Ostach back to the car and drove her to the nearby hospital after getting directions. Admiral Kuhn stayed with her while she was seen. Admiral Kuhn took Chief Ostach to a WalGreens to purchase a knee brace and a pair of crutches before returning to the hotel.
MASADAN OCCUPATION MEDAL
Master Chief Intelligence Mate Thomas Guertin: Master Chief Guertin is awarded the Masadan Occupation Medal for having worked the TRMN table at Boskone 63 (February 13-15) every day of the convention, attending in his TRMN persona the entire time. Boskone an annual event of the New England Science Fiction Association (NESFA), a non-profit organization.
NAVAL COMMENDATION DECORATION
Captain of the List Ann Schottler: Captain Schottler is awarded the Naval Commendation Decoration for serving as area coordinators for the 2025 Teddy Bear Challenge and for arranging for the delivery of the bears to the children.
Chief Petty Officer Tammy Lynn Strayer: Chief Strayer is awarded the Naval Commendation Decoration for serving as area coordinators for the 2025 Teddy Bear Challenge and for arranging for the delivery of the bears to the children.
Congratulations to everyone decorated above! TRMN as a whole is made better by your contributions.
