The Institute for TRMN Leadership Studies (ITLS) brings together courses built by individual bureaus and other parts of the organization to prepare members for particular functional roles and billets. Some of these offerings are restricted rather than open to the whole membership, and a few are run outside of BuTrain altogether. Where that is the case, the sponsoring bureau opens a course only to eligible members, and only as the need arises.

A smaller set of courses works the opposite way. Offerings such as the Introduction to TRMN sequence are open to everyone, and every member is warmly encouraged to take them. The catalog below reflects what is on offer today; the Institute is still growing, so expect more courses to be added in the months ahead.

Introduction to TRMN

Introduction to TRMN 1, 2, and 3 is a three-part sequence that serves as the front door into the organization for every new member. Taken together, the courses walk you through how TRMN works day to day: our command structure, the rank system, how we approach uniforming and cosplay, the Code of Conduct, the ways we communicate, the awards program, and much of the other groundwork that helps a new member find their footing quickly. Each course is built from short video segments, and every segment is followed by a few plain questions. Many of those questions link straight to the TRMN sites and resources they mention, so you can bookmark them as you go and return to them later. Welcome aboard.

Bureau courses are tailored to the particular needs of each TRMN bureau. The current offerings are listed below. Depending on the course, access may be limited to a bureau's staff or to named individuals, or it may be open more widely.

TRMN Functional Courses

Functional courses cover knowledge and training tied to a TRMN billet or role rather than to Honorverse background, so they carry little or no in-universe content. Some are required to hold a given billet, some are strongly recommended, and others exist simply for personal enrichment. As with the Advanced Leadership College's external offerings, a functional course may be delivered by an outside provider or run internally through the usual BuTrain course process.
