HMS Samurai (CL-356) was a Valiant-class Light Cruiser of the Royal Manticoran Navy in Second Fleet. One of the organization's earliest ships, commissioned in 2011, she was commissioned and recommissioned repeatedly across Minnesota and northern Indiana over the following thirteen years, her successive crews each upgrading to a larger vessel.
History
Samurai was commissioned on 20 November 2011 under the command of CDR Justin Grays, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[1] Command passed to CDR Jill McTavish on 26 April 2012,[2] and in October 2012 the crew upgraded to the battlecruiser HMS Victorious, returning Samurai to the reserve.[3]
She was recommissioned on 23 December 2012 in the Twin Cities under CDR Wayne Bruns,[4] whose crew upgraded to the superdreadnought HMS Imperatrix on 3 May 2013.[5] Samurai returned to service on 19 May 2014 at Rochester, Minnesota under CDR Garrett Bitker, serving until the crew upgraded to the heavy cruiser HMS Merlin on 30 November 2015.[6][7]
After nearly two years in reserve, Samurai was recommissioned on 26 September 2017 as the Willmar, Minnesota chapter under CDR Matthew Lindquist, her crew transferring from the destroyer HMS Vixen.[8] That crew upgraded to the heavy cruiser HMS Trebuchet on 4 August 2018, again placing Samurai in reserve.[9]
Samurai was recommissioned a final time on 4 September 2019 to serve the Goshen, Indiana chapter under CDR Jeff Smith, upgrading from HMLAC Faraway Quest.[10] She was subsequently decommissioned; the corresponding Bureau of Ships directive was not published to the forum.[citation needed]
