The Advanced Leadership College (ALC) is composed of two units. The first offers TRMN internal coursework that supplements and functions as prerequisites for all branch main line rank courses. The Advanced Leadership College offers BuTrain course credit for ‘real world’ third-party leadership, communication, management, and ethics courses through our External Studies program. Recommended are free courses available through the Alison.com learning management system along with a few others. BuTrain has ‘pre-approved’ a number of these courses in the four areas, and each has been given a MEDUSA course name that directly mirrors the Alison or other provider course title.

Beyond the pre-approved courses noted above, students may opt to seek permission from the instructor to pursue ‘Advanced Study’ in the areas of leadership, communication, management, and ethics. This opportunity functions much like a BuTrain technical specialties warrant project in that the student proposes which external course they would like to undertake, and must obtain instructor approval before proceeding. These advanced studies are not restricted to the Alison.com learning management system, but in all cases, instructor pre-approval must be obtained.

Leadership, Communication, Management, and Ethics courses

External Studies

Through its External Studies program, the Advanced Leadership College grants BuTrain course credit for real-world, third-party courses in leadership, communication, management, and ethics. Most of the recommended options are free courses on the Alison.com learning platform, with a few from other providers. BuTrain has pre-approved a number of these across the four areas, and each carries a MEDUSA course name that mirrors the provider's own title.

Members may also pursue advanced study in any of the four areas. These are third-party courses that are not on the pre-approved list; more on them appears below. Advanced study is not limited to Alison.com, but in every case, whether the course is pre-approved or not, you must obtain instructor pre-approval before beginning.

To sign up for a pre-approved course, or to request permission for an advanced-study course in leadership, communication, management, or ethics, use the usual course-request system on the website and select:

Course Request → Civilian → Gryphon Planetary University → Advanced Leadership College

From the drop-down menu, choose External Studies Courses and submit the request.

Your receipt will include a link to a short Google Form, where you can either (1) pick from the list of pre-approved titles, or (2) request permission to take an advanced-study title. For an advanced-study request you must explain how the course is relevant to TRMN; requests outside the four areas will not be approved.

Pre-Approved Courses

The Alison.com and other provider titles that BuTrain has pre-approved in leadership, communication, management, and ethics are listed in the tables below, and more will be added to each area as they are approved. Do not begin any of these courses until you have submitted the Google Form and received instructor approval.

Advanced Study Courses

Beyond the pre-approved list, members may seek an instructor's permission to pursue advanced study in leadership, communication, management, or ethics. The process works much like a BuTrain technical-specialties warrant project: you propose the outside course you would like to take, and you must secure instructor approval before starting. Advanced study is not limited to Alison.com, but in every case instructor pre-approval is required.
