This guide shows you how to create a page for an echelon: a fleet, squadron, division, or station. These are the organizational units above a single ship. The worked example here is Tenth Fleet.

An echelon page describes a formation and the units under it. Name the page after the echelon, for example Tenth Fleet or "Battle Squadron 21".

Step by step

 1. Create the page with the echelon's name.
 2. Add the infobox with Infobox-echelon (skeleton below).
 3. Write the opening sentence. Put the name in bold and say what it is: The Tenth Fleet is one of the numbered fleets within The Royal Manticoran Navy: The Official Honor Harrington Fan Association, Inc..
 4. Describe the echelon: who commands it, where it operates, and what reports to it.
 5. List the units underneath it, such as its squadrons and ships.
 6. Add a History section for how it was formed and how it has changed.
 7. Categorise the page, for example plus the relevant fleet or squadron category.

The infobox

Use Infobox-echelon. Filled in with the real details of Tenth Fleet, it looks like this:

The fields you will use most:

Field What it holds
branch The branch, such as RMN or GSN.
co The commanding officer, with abbreviated rank.
flagship The flagship, using the hms helper.
ao The area of operations, such as the states and provinces covered.
reportsto The echelon or office it answers to.
crest and flash The unit's crest and flash images.
formed and status When it was formed, and whether it is active or dissolved.
The name comes from the page title
Infobox-echelon has no name field. It uses the page's own title, so name the page exactly as the echelon should appear.
Keep the reporting line plain
The reportsto and fleet fields link themselves, so type a plain name such as First Space Lord or Tenth Fleet. Do not wrap the value in brackets, and do not add Flagged here; the template handles the link for you.

Marking an echelon dissolved

If an echelon is stood down, do not delete its page. Set status to show it is inactive and add it to , but only when an order actually dissolved it.
