TenthFleet:Documenting an order

Revision as of 03:00, 17 July 2026 by MDGarcia (talk | contribs) (Use American English spellings)
This guide shows you how to add an order or directive to the wiki. Orders are the official record of the organization, so the golden rule here is simple: reproduce the text exactly, and never change a word of it.

Orders live in the Orders namespace, so their titles start with Orders:, for example Orders:Admiralty Order 1305-01.

Reproduce, do not rewrite
Copy the order's wording exactly, including any typos or odd punctuation. People rely on this text as a faithful record, and some of it is used to set exams. You may add formatting, links, and metadata around the text, but you may never edit the text itself.

Step by step

  1. Find the order on the TRMN forums, which is the source of record.
  2. Create the page with an Orders: title that matches the order's designation and number.
  3. Add a two-sentence lead saying who issued the order and what it does. This is your own summary and sits above the order text.
  4. Paste the order text verbatim below the lead.
  5. Add the {{Order info}} template to record who issued it and its status.
  6. Add References if the order came with sources or attachments.
  7. Categorize the order by its issuing body and type.
Orders can be attachments
Newer directives sometimes post a short summary on the forum with the real order attached as a PDF. When that happens, transcribe the PDF, not the summary blurb.

Marking an order superseded or rescinded

Orders stay on the wiki forever, but their status can change. Do not delete a superseded order. Instead, flag it:

  • {{Order superseded}} marks an order that a later order replaced. Give it the replacing order and its type.
  • {{Order rescinded}} marks an order that was canceled.

The full set of order-page helpers ({{Order Header}}, {{Order Sig}}, {{Order navigation}}, and others) is listed in the Template guide. The easiest way to lay out a new order is to copy the markup from a recent order page and change the contents.
