TenthFleet:Supersession framework

This page explains how to mark a document that has been replaced. The wiki keeps old orders and policies rather than deleting them, so when something is superseded you flag it, you do not remove it.
Never delete, always flag
Orders, directives, and policy documents are a permanent record. When one is replaced, add a banner that points to the new document. The old text stays exactly as it was.

Which template to use

There are four flags, for four situations:

Template Use it when...
{{Superseded}} A whole document has been replaced or voided. Put it at the very top of the page.
{{Section superseded}} Only one section of a document is out of date. Put it inside that section.
{{Order superseded}} A whole order page is replaced by a later order.
{{Order rescinded}} An order has been canceled outright.

How to flag a whole document

Add {{Superseded}} as the first line of the page:

{{Superseded
| by   = [[PD-BOD-0001 Governing Documents]]
| note = short explanation of what replaced it and why
}}

Use status=VOIDED if the document was canceled rather than replaced, and type= to say what kind of document it is, such as "manual" or "order".

How to flag a single section

Put {{Section superseded}} at the top of the affected section:

{{Section superseded
| by = [[PD-SC-1004 Rank and Promotion Policy]]
| note = the promotion rules moved to the new policy
}}
Cite the replacing document
The by field takes free text, so link the exact document that replaced this one. If a document was voided because an office was dissolved rather than replaced, say so in the note.
