The Tenth Fleet Summit is the annual in-person gathering of the Tenth Fleet, convened each year in conjunction with BayCon — the flagship convention of the fleet's area of responsibility — in Santa Clara, California. It serves as the fleet's principal muster, bringing together the crews of its member chapters for ceremonial, administrative, and social activities over the course of the convention weekend.
Format
While each summit's programme varies with the host echelon and the membership in attendance, a Tenth Fleet Summit characteristically includes:
- Commissioning ceremonies for newly formed chapters and vessels — for example, HMS Cerberus was commissioned at the 2015 summit and HMS Chainshot at the 2016 summit.[1]
- Promotion and awards presentations, at which fleet personnel are advanced in rank and recognized for their service.
- Command turnovers and a fleet muster, where echelon commanders gather to conduct fleet business.
- Social and convention programming shared with the wider BayCon event, including panels, gaming, and a fleet social.
Alternating summits (2015–2019)
From 2015 through 2019 the fleet and its principal California task group alternated hosting duties. The fleet-wide Tenth Fleet Summit convened in the odd-numbered years — 2015, 2017, and 2019 — with Task Group 91.1 serving as host echelon. In the intervening even-numbered years, 2016 and 2018, Task Group 91.1 instead held a Task Group 91.1 Summit for its own members; the first of these was held at BayCon 2016.[1]
The rotation was interrupted when BayCon was cancelled in 2020 and held only virtually in 2021 during the pandemic.[2] Following the fleet's post-pandemic recovery, the Tenth Fleet Summit resumed in 2024, and the 2026 summit was formally designated a Flag Event and the 10th Fleet Summit for that year by Tenth Fleet Order 2511-01.[3]
